ERASMUS in brief
ERASMUS is the action of the Socrates II programme devoted to higher education. It aims at improving quality and reinforcing the European dimension of higher education by encouraging translational cooperation between universities, by stimulating European mobility and improving transparency and academic recognition of courses of study and qualifications throughout the European Union.
Erasmus is made up of a number of activities: student and lecturer exchanges, joint development of curriculums, intensive international programmes, themed networks between departments and faculties across Europe, language lessons (CIEL), European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
The ERASMUS action is intended for higher education institutions - and therefore for students and lecturers - of the 27 member states of the European Union, from the three countries of the European economic area (Island, Liechtenstein and Norway) and Turkey.
