Insurance
European Union national students in exchange with a French institution are exempt from social security rights and must be equipped with the European health insurance card that they obtain from the social security centre of their country of origin or private insurance - documents valid for the whole duration of the stay in France. Students outside of the European Union are not exempt from contributing to the student social security regime, even if they benefit from health coverage in their country.
Bank account
It is strongly advised to open a bank account for illness refunds, to obtain a credit card or cheque book. Overseas students can open a non-resident bank account (in Euros or another currency) or a resident account (in Euros or another currency) if the duration of the stay justifies it. It is advised to ask your usual bank (overseas) if this is associated with a French network, to facilitate transactions.
