I prefer the sun and Romance languages, so when a 2nd year student spoke to me about a work placement in Sicily the previous year, I wanted to take the plunge.

I had just finished practising my English during a study stay in Liverpool. I wanted a change.  I joined a multinational in Syracuse that is very well-known in the computing field. On-site there was an impressive mix of nationalities.  Nobody or almost nobody spoke Italian so we made ourselves understood in all languages but mainly in English.  During the day I worked for a helpline; in the evening and at weekends I set off to discover the country with friends I had met there. 

It's a huge bonus for your CV to have worked in an internationally renowned company.
